Family Medical Center

The Family Medical Center, located at 612 South 12th Street, is a modern 23,360 square foot facility completed in 1992 and expanded in 2007 with 24 examination rooms in four team areas. The facility also includes a minor surgical suite, GYN procedures room, a casting room, and a treadmill stress testing room. A well equipped and staffed laboratory and modern x-ray facilities are included in the clinic as well. The clinic is equipped with a colposcope, sigmoidscope, nasopharyngoscope, a treadmill and computerized electro-cardiographic monitoring unit, OB ultrasound, fetal monitors, and radiosurgical and cryotherapy units. Patient education materials are also provided in an area specifically for this purpose.
The staff includes generous nursing support, laboratory technicians, x-ray technician, receptionist, billing clerks, medical records clerks, administrative and computer support staff. Family practice faculty are always present in the clinic to provide support for residents as they see patients. Counseling services are also available on site through the social work department.

The clinic has space for residents to read, relax, or dictate, as well as a small reference library, and growing computerized database for reference. Our most recent addition to our computerized database is Stat-Ref, which includes a computerized version of approximately forty text books with an easy to use search engine. All residents are provided a free subscription to MDConsult.  Computerized access is available for the residents in the team nursing stations and in the resident work area. Internet access, as well as e-mail addresses, are provided for the residents via our computer network.
Our patient population comes from many diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. The clinic averages about 2500 patient visits per month. First year residents will start off seeing only 4 patients per clinic, however, the clinic schedule will increase as competency is demonstrated to the faculty. Second year residents can expect to see 8-10 patients per clinic, and Third year residents will see 10-16 patients. Each resident is expected to perform all procedures on their panel of patients.
